Plan your visit

Ahead of your visit

One appointment, explained before it starts.

Bring whatever you're wondering about. Your dentist explains as you go, what's happening, why it matters and what comes next, so you leave with a plan that makes sense.

Getting ready

Small things that help before you arrive.

01

Bring anything relevant

Old X-rays, a list of medications or notes on what you've noticed all help, though you're welcome to come without them.

02

Flag what makes it harder

If anxiety, a sensitive spot or a rough past experience make visits difficult, tell the team early so they can plan around it.

03

Give it enough time

A first look needs room for questions and a proper explanation, not just a quick glance and a nod.

Why this matters

What this treatment aims to improve

Results depend on the starting condition, the treatment plan and how the mouth responds. Your dentist will explain what is realistic for your case before treatment begins.

A measured starting point

Checking around each tooth shows which areas are healthy, which are inflamed and which run deeper, so you're not guessing at what's going on.

Catching it while it's still reversible

Gingivitis generally responds well to treatment and steady home care, and dealing with it at this stage gives your gums the best shot at settling back to health.

Keeping the advanced stage under control

Periodontitis can't be cured, but it can be stabilised and slowed, and staying on top of it matters more than any single appointment.

How it works

Step by step, from assessment to review

1

We map your gum health

Your dentist checks for bleeding, records how far the gum has pulled back in places, and notes any looseness, so we know exactly what we're working with.

2

We clean below the gum line

Where it's needed, the root surfaces beneath the gum are cleaned with local anaesthetic where appropriate, sometimes spread across more than one visit depending on how much of your mouth is affected.

3

We check how you've responded

Once your gums have had time to heal, we measure again to see what's improved and agree on a maintenance plan that fits how you responded.

Gum disease treatment questions

Questions patients often ask

The answers below cover what most patients experience. Your own dentist will tailor the advice to your examination, medical history and treatment plan.

Rarely without treatment. They generally improve once plaque and deposits are removed and your daily cleaning becomes consistent. More advanced gum disease needs an assessment, treatment and ongoing maintenance to manage it properly.
